Apple presented its new operating systems at WWDC 2024. The highlight: a calculator for the iPad.
On June 10, Apple presented its upcoming updates for the operating systems for Mac, Apple Watch, iPad, iPhone, etc. at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). It’s not just Siri that is now getting superpowers with the integration of ChatGPT: All devices are getting various new functions on the software side.
watchOS, visionOS, tvOS, macOS and of course iOS – the iPhone operating system in particular has been given a completely new redesign in some areas. The announcements didn’t blow us away, except for one highlight that we’ve wanted for 14 years: the calculator is finally pre-installed on the iPad.

Siri is getting smarter
watchOS 11
The Apple Watch gets a new training mode with watchOS 11. Among other things, it is now possible to rate the difficulty of a workout. There are also new widgets. It is also possible to pause training rings if you are sick or simply don’t have time for an evening walk.
Another new feature is the Vitals app, which gives you an overview of the most important health functions. This means you can see changes, deviations, etc. much more quickly than was previously possible.
What of course cannot be missed: new watch faces. Here, artificial intelligence selects the best photos on your iPhone that are best suited as a background image on your watch.
iPadOS 18
The new Control Center and the new Photos app from iOS are also being introduced to the iPad. Also new is a floating navigation bar that is designed to make it easier for you to control apps, and it is also customizable.
Best update ever: The calculator finally lands on the iPad. It works together with the app and now also allows you to do calculations with the stylus. We’ve been waiting for this for 14 years!
The note app also improves your handwriting by analyzing it and then “beautifying” it.
tvOS 18
Apple TV now shows you actors and songs played in films and series from TV+ in real time. There is also a new “Enhanced Dialogue” mode for better voice intelligibility. tvOS 18 now shows subtitles at the right moment, for example when the language in a film does not match the system language.
In addition, the 21:9 image format is now supported. The function is intended for playing films and series on projectors. There are also a number of new screen savers and many new games, which should particularly please Apple gamers.
macOS Sequoia
macOS Sequioa integrates various features that are also used in the new iOS. One highlight: With iPhone Mirroring, you can now view the screen content of your smartphone, even if it is not nearby. You can also operate the iPhone just as if you were holding it in your hands, including using apps.
Notifications from the iPhone are also displayed on the Mac – clicking on them opens the corresponding app using the remote control. The audio output also takes place on the Mac. The iPhone itself remains locked so that no one can access it.
MacBook Air 15 with M3 in the test: hit, sunk!
The Apple laptop for everyone
With a 15-inch display, but no fan. With a fast M3 processor, but without the MacBook Pro price: In the test of the new MacBook Air 15, we discovered a lot of positives and little that we didn’t like.
The arrangement of windows and video conferences has also been revised, and there is also a new password app. Apple has also given its Safari browser a major update, which is intended to help the browser find relevant information more quickly, among other things.
visionOS 2
visionOS is also getting a new update with many new features. The Photos app in visionOS 2 can now create spatial photos from old images. The use of two virtual 4K displays is now also possible.
Apple has also improved the gesture control of the mixed reality headset to further improve and expand the controls. There are new gestures on board that you can use to check the battery level or navigate between menus.
Apple introduces iOS 18 with AI
WWDC 2024
Apple announced iOS 18 for iPhones at WWDC 2024 and introduced a new AI that will improve your everyday life.
There is also a special train mode on board for your train journey, which intelligently expands on airplane mode. On July 12th, Apple Vision Pro will finally be available to buy in Germany.
Siri is getting smarter
Voice assistant Siri has received a lot of criticism in recent years. With the advent of artificial intelligence, everything is now supposed to be better. With the upcoming updates, Siri – or now Apple Intelligence – will also receive major patches. Among other things, the voice assistant will now be able to correct statements in real time and will be much more deeply integrated into the operating system.
In the future, for example, it will be possible to carry out actions between different apps. Real-time corrections, help with emails and much more will also be possible. Artificial intelligence is being incorporated into various pre-installed Apple apps.
