- The iPhone operating system iOS16 has problems with the AirPlay function.
- Connections with older models of the Apple TV are partially limited.
- Apple TV models 2 and 3 from 2010 and 2012 are affected.
Apple devices can send content to the Apple TV and other compatible end devices via the AirPlay function. With iOS16, however, this only seems to be possible to a limited extent – at least on older Apple TV models.
This reports 9to5Mac referring to models 2 and 3 of the Apple TV. These are early representatives of the streaming platform from 2010 and 2012. This hardware no longer receives regular update support from Apple and does not have direct access to many popular apps.
Has Apple turned off the AirPlay feature for old devices?
Is the limited AirPlay functionality an error or did the manufacturer Apple intentionally limit the compatibility between the devices with iOS16? This is apparently still unclear.
However, the screen mirroring feature is said to still work where popular apps like Netflix and Disney+ can no longer send a signal to the Apple TV – leaving at least one method of continuing to bring content to the big screen via the old TV boxes.
