In terms of the age of the Apple Watch 5, the current offers could be even better. With some deals you can save around 50 to 80 dollars compared to the successor, but we strongly advise you to compare prices with the Apple Watch 6 before buying.
If you save less than 50 dollars, we recommend that you take the successor to the Apple Watch 5. Not only because the new version has some new functions to offer, but also because you will be provided with updates for longer.
Differences between the models
Compared to the Apple Watch 6, the new sensor for measuring the oxygen content in the blood is missing, as is the U1 chip, which, among other things, is used to locate the soon-to-be-released AirTags can be used. In addition, the Apple Watch supports 6 WiFi networks with 5 gigahertz and comes in new color variants. The Apple Watch 5 does not offer this.

However, there are also significant differences between the two models. The Apple Watch 5 offers an always-on display and an ECG function. You have to do without these with the SE.
When buying the Apple Watch 5, you should decide whether you can do without the new functions of the Series 6. You should also consider whether you need the always-on display and the EKG function.
