in how some fans Ark: Survival Evolved is working on a remake, studio wildcard The response was… to make it more expensive.
Last week, Studio Wildcard made several major announcements related to the Ark franchise. The first, Ark 2, was delayed until 2024, which is totally unsurprising since we’ve seen almost no gameplay content so far. The second is more surprising because of the studio’s announcement that Ark: Survival Evolved is getting a massive remake called Ark: Survival Evolved, and the fact that Survival Evolved’s servers are shutting down, meaning players will have to buy the remake . Fans didn’t like it much, so apparently Studio Wildcard’s solution was to make it more expensive.
To explain further, Wildcard revealed in its announcement that if you want to play the game on Xbox or PC, you’ll have to buy a bundle for $49.99 that also includes a second upcoming game (on PS5 you’ll get $49.99). Survival Ascended can be purchased for only $39.99). In addition to this, players will also have to purchase the upcoming expansion pack. Now, in a new post from Wildcard, that’s apparently not the case.
Survival Ascended is available now for $59.99, excluding Ark 2, but will include all upcoming expansion packs. “We recognize that combining ARK Survival Ascended with ARK 2 and requiring further DLC upgrades is not optimal, especially since you cannot judge ARK 2 because there is no gameplay or content available yet,” Wildcard explained in its post That said, odd considering this new release also forces you to pay more than before because you also don’t know if the content is good or not.
The main point of contention for fans is that they are forced to buy a brand new version of the game, while the vanilla servers being shut down means they have no choice if they want to keep playing the game (other than private servers, which aren’t for everyone). In the post, Wildcard explained that making all these graphical changes “was not feasible” just in the original game, but didn’t explain why players would have to buy the game again to continue playing it.
Survival Evolved’s servers will shut down on August 31, the same month Survival Ascended will be released. All in all, kind of gross, so let’s see if players want to migrate!
