Much of James Gunn’s Superman movie is still being kept under wraps, but it appears a certain super-puppy will be making an appearance in the film.
As of now, we don’t know much about the story of Superman (formerly known as Superman: Legacy) other than set photos. Those set photos do raise some questions, though, especially one photo of a dog dressed as Superman (granted, this is most likely just a staff member’s dog). But it looks like Krypto, the top superdog, may actually appear in the movie. As spotted by Collider, Superman comics writer Mark Waid recently appeared on the Capes and Lunatics podcast, where he talked about all sorts of comics-related things. During the show, Waid seemed to let slip that Krypto will be in the movie, even if he didn’t mention the character by name.

“In general, I like how Gunn is reverent about these kinds of things, you know reverent but not too serious,” Wade said. “I mean, there’s a dog in this movie, a super-powered dog with heat vision.” I don’t know of any other super-powered dog with heat vision in a Superman movie, so I’m going to go out on a limb and say Wade is talking about Krypto here. If you’re wondering about Wade’s credentials, he’s worked on a num ber of DC comics (and Marvel comics, too), including the 2022 series Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, so it’s safe to say he knows what he’s talking about.
Man of Steel is currently set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, so you’ve got more than a year until it hits theaters. Luckily, there shouldn’t be any delays, as Gunn tends to avoid reshoots thanks to doing one simple thing: doing his homework.
