Like every year, smartphones reach the end of their life cycle. Samsung will phase out again in 2024 and end support for four devices.

This means that these smartphones will no longer receive security updates.

Four Samsung smartphones without further security updates

  • Galaxy Note 10 Lite
  • Galaxy S10 Lite
  • Galaxy A71
  • Galaxy A02

This means that Samsung is keeping its update promise of two or three years for Android updates and three or four years for security updates for these devices.

The Galaxy S10 Lite and the Note 10 Lite received the latest OS update with Android 13, the two A models received Android 12.

Exceptions are the two variants Galaxy A71s and A02s. Both entry-level smartphones will receive another year of security updates, like Sammobile reported and on the official website of Samsung becomes apparent.

What does that mean for you? The four smartphones mentioned can of course still be used without any problems. If a critical security vulnerability in the One UI operating system becomes known, the four cell phones will not receive an update to close the gap.

Theoretically, attackers could exploit such vulnerabilities to smuggle malicious code onto the smartphone and, for example, gain access to sensitive data.

Already knew: According to the manufacturer, newer flagship smartphones such as the Pixel 8 and Galaxy S24 series receive Android updates for an impressive 7 years. How the guarantee will be implemented in practice remains to be seen.

It is currently unknown whether the two manufacturers will extend the long-term warranty to their mid-range smartphones.

The Galaxy A55 is expected in March, while the Pixel 8a is not expected to hit the market until the second quarter of 2024. The latter could also experience a price increase.
