Back then, Overwatch Halloween Horror An event is something the community comes together to celebrate. The campaign was first launched in 2016, the same year the first game launched. Seasonal events will begin each year thereafter, including exclusive cosmetics, seasonal loot boxes, and an exclusive brawl in the form of Junkenstein’s Revenge.
Now we are in a new era Overwatch 2, while the original was not playable at all, and we had to come up with a new interpretation of events. The players are not happy.
Head over to the Overwatch subreddit and you’ll see the community complaining about the value of this event compared to the days when we were full of loot boxes in Overwatch.
A popular post on the social media platform today read: “Remember when playing games paid off?” and simply showed pictures of what you might get out of a loot box (exaggerated for comedic effect), and what you need to do for the Paid for two new skins ($40).
Then, you’ll get the next two most popular posts of the day – the morning of the day the event went live. One simply says “no skins because the reward for participating in the Halloween event sucks”, and the other compares the $40 gain in Overwatch 2 to what it might get in Overwatch (embedded below) Compare.
Keep scrolling through the subreddit — or take a look at the Overwatch hashtag on Twitter — and you’ll see that it’s a common theme throughout the community; people are annoyed at the way that Halloween horror has been rolled out in Overwatch 2, and they’ve been very vocal about it. Behind the already unpopular Battle Pass and the game’s botched launch, this is another controversy that Blizzard could have avoided.
Perhaps my favorite comment from any thread I browsed this morning was this one, buried deep in the first embedded conversation in this article: “Seeing someone with cool skin from ‘Wow, how did you know that? I Want it!’ becomes ‘Haha, you paid for this? What the fuck are you doing’.” That’s probably not the look Blizzard wanted for the game, right?
From today until November 9th, participating will earn you Adlersbrunn’s Nightfall Business Card, Jack-o’-lantern Weapon Charm, and Battle Pass XP.
If you really want the skins for it all, you’ll need to tune in to the Overwatch 2 Twitch stream to unlock the Werewolf Winston spray and legendary skins. However, it’s not the same as unlocking them, is it?
