My Hero Academia: You Are Next is set to be released in Japan next month, but American gamers will only have to wait a few months to see it.
This year has been a big one for My Hero Academia. Season seven continues to bring a dramatic conclusion to the series, and while that’s still a while away, creator Kohei Horikoshi even confirmed that the manga will wrap up this August. The timing is great, too, as there’s also a new movie coming out, My Hero Academia: You’re Next, which is set to hit theaters in Japan on August 2. News on a U.S. release has been pretty quiet, though, like with most anime movies, but during a panel at Anime Expo this past weekend, Toho Animation confirmed that the upcoming film will hit theaters in the U.S. on October 11, a few months after its Japanese release later this year.
Traditionally, many movies adapted from popular manga aren’t straight out of the main story, and while there’s a growing trend of releasing movies between seasons as a transition, like Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and the upcoming Chainsaw Man movie, You Are Next won’t be a must-see for Season 8. The setting is loosely based around the anime’s current plot, when villains are on the loose and a giant fortress appears and starts kidnapping people. Things are further complicated by the appearance of an evil All Might copycat, but his full story has yet to be revealed.

My Hero Academia isn’t the only manga set to end this year, with Jujutsu Kaisen also (probably) set to end – however, its creator Akutami did take some time off recently due to illness, so perhaps Shonen Jump will keep one of its most popular titles for a while longer.
