Assassin's Creed Shadows will be released in February and Ubisoft is slowly revealing more and more details about the next part of the successful series. After stealth, it's now the turn of the combat system.

With the upcoming release of Assassin's Creed Shadows on February 14th, Ubisoft is slowly but surely boosting PR and marketing, among other things by presenting the game mechanics in more detail. There was already one in November DevBlog about the stealth systemnow that's it Combat system it's turn.

This explains, among other things, the different attacks. There are therefore light and heavy attacks, each also available as a charged attack by holding the attack button. “Light attacks can be executed slightly faster than heavy attacks,” explains Ubisoft, “but heavy posture attacks are tough if you get the timing right. But be careful: enemies will watch for posture attacks and try to stop you from doing so “To rush towards them, be sure to keep your eyes open.”

The defense relies on dodging and parrying, although the mechanics are different for Yasuke and Naoe. Yasuke's parries push opponents back, opening up attack opportunities, while Naoe opens up the opportunity for flank attacks. Yasuke also has the ability to block with his weapons.

There will also be a number of active and passive skills and abilities in weapon-related skill trees that you can gradually unlock using mastery points. “Active skills are by far the most powerful skills you can acquire,” says Ubisoft. “They look cool, they hit hard, and they all offer additional options like gap closing, armor piercing – even health regeneration.”

Players can also purchase passive skills that work in the background to make you more efficient and powerful in combat. These include an increase in adrenaline regeneration, an increase in base health, time dilation for a longer window of opportunity, and more. The basic attacks are similar for both characters, but there are still massive differences due to weapons and skills.

When it comes to weapons, Naoe relies on katana, kusarigama as well as tanto and hidden blade. Yasuke as a warrior type uses the long katana, naginata, kanabo, yumi bow and teppo rifle. The variety of weapons and skills should be countered by different types of opponents with different attack and defense patterns.

So far it doesn't sound unusual and basically as expected. We'll find out in February whether this all comes together to form a well-rounded combat system.
