When the first rumors about the next Assassin’s Creed began to tremble on the internet, many did not forget the adventures of Eivor. Hero of[id: 1218478 Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
THE WITCH III
It’s hard not to talk about The Witcher 3 when referring to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Granted, the universe is different and the gameplay has a more advanced RPG approach than Ubis game, but CD Projekt’s work has perks that should delight those nostalgic for Eivor. Gerald the Witcher (a monster slayer whose body has been mutated that gives him extraordinary powers) that we embody is at the heart of a breathtaking scenario full of magic, legend and fantastic events. One of The Witcher III’s great strengths, aside from its luscious graphics, is the freedom it leaves to the player. The latter has enough time to follow the main quest, to devote to side quests (wonderfully written) or to have fun with the various activities on offer. An unforgettable trip!

VIKINGS: BATTLE FOR ASGARD
Obviously, with a name like that, it’s difficult not to associate with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Viking: Battle for Asgard has a direct interest in Norse mythology and this fascinating mysterious people. This action game signed by The Creative Assembly studio is a kind of God of War in Dynasty Warriors mode. Understand that entire armies are involved in the battles and that, depending on the adventure, the player must save the men who come to strengthen their clan. In Viking: Battle for Asgard we play the role of Skarin, Freya’s “henchman”, who definitely has to stop the goddess Hel. A pretty nice Hack’n Slash who is passionate about using the mythology of the Scandinavian countries. Discover.

GOD OF WAR
For lovers of Norse mythology, God of War is an ode to discovery. In this adventure carried out by extraordinary actors, Kratos and his son meet gods (Baldur, Freya, Thor, Mimir …) who repeat Assassin’s creed Valhalla. The breathtakingly beautiful game Santa Monica is an unforgettable leap into the stories and legends of Northern Europe and every event is steeped in Scandinavian mythologies. It’s impossible not to be surprised by Jörmungand, that gigantic sea serpent that devours sinking ships (and who also appears in season 6 of the Vikings). In terms of hard gameplay, God of War is a “more brutal” and cooperative game than Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but it clearly seems like a more than essential alternative if you liked the Ubi Montreal title.

NORTHGARD
With Northgard we’re completely changing the gameplay (since it’s an RTS) but we’re staying in the world of Norse myths and legends. In this title developed by Shiro Games, the player’s mission is to make his faction (among the eleven available) more successful by developing his village and carrying out his conquests. What strikes you about Northgard is that you are reliving the Viking lifestyle, namely their thirst for exploration, conquest and battle. They were also an extremely innovative people and we find this term in this strategy game that forces the player to manage each of his units (pawn, warrior, sage, navigator …). The same applies to everything that has to do with trade. A pleasant job with a lovable universe.

ASSASSIN’S CREED ODYSSEY
It’s impossible not to link Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to other episodes in the Ubisoft franchise. So we could have proposed the Black Flag, which instituted naval battles, but we preferred to bet on one of the license’s final adventures, Odyssey. Through its mechanisms and universe inspired by Ancient Greece, this great epic establishes a more advanced approach to RPG and offers an open world to fall backwards. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is set in 431 BC. During the Peloponnesian War and shows Kassandra or Alexios. We meet many historical figures (Pericles, Hippocrates, Herodotus …) and the adventure – which offers lush sea battles – extends over dozens and dozen of hours of play.

SKYRIM
Skyrim is a great classic video game and important work that all budding adventurers must experience at least once. With its many script extensions and a gigantic immersive world, the title Bethesda is emulated over and over again. Like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, it is imbued with various themes that are historical, medieval, or even fantastic, leaving the player with great freedom. The latter is free to follow the main quest or walk in unexpected regions to discover additional stories. Whether it’s breathtaking scenery or hostile dungeons, Skyrim is a call to discovery and exploration.

ASSASSIN’S CREED ORIGIN
Although the universe is far from Eivor’s, it seems important to quote Assassin’s Creed Origins as it is undoubtedly the latter, released in 2017, which has drawn the modern contours of the franchise. In Origins the player plays Bayek, a man who at the time of Ptolemy XIII. Lived in the heart of Egypt. During this adventure, which began in 49 B.C. Takes place, the Medja of Siwa quenches his thirst for revenge by traveling through the Egyptian regions and meeting such mythical characters on Caesar or Queen Cleopatra. With its RPG-mechanic gameplay and various innovations – particularly the Senu Eagle – Origins is one of the license’s founding episodes and one that, due to its modernity, comes closest to Valhalla.

HELLBLADE
While the second episode is in development, Hellblade remains one of the milestones of 2017. Far darker and more psychological than Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Ninja Theory’s work permeates Nordic legends and brings the player into contact with emotions that can be disturbing. The story tells of the confused wanderings of Senua, a Picte warrior who swore to cross the forbidden lands of the Kingdom of Hel to bring her lover back to life. The story is harsh, poignant, visceral, but it recalls the stories of those who once crossed the path of the Vikings. If Hellblade bothers you, it is mostly for his subject in connection with psychoses and mental disorders. The game thus uses the principle of hallucinations (a bit like in Eternal Darkness, but on a larger scale) and questions the player constantly.

THE BANNER SAGA
When we think of video games and Norse mythology, we also think of The Banner Saga. This tactical role-playing game from Studio Stoic is set in an imaginary world inspired by the Vikings and Scandinavian legends. Combining history and fantasy, this replacement Final Fantasy Tactics or Fire Emblem will melt you down if you hold onto Nordic adventures. Since its release in 2013, The Banner Saga has had two sequels, but we can’t recommend enough that you play each part in sequence as each of them follows the events of its predecessor. Hypnotically beautiful with its charismatic characters and inspired sets, this is an intelligent work of art that deserves to be discovered if you have appreciated Valhalla’s subjects.

SPIRIT OF TSUSHIMA
With its historic reach and fabulous performance, Ghost of Tsushima has been one of the most important exclusives in the PlayStation galaxy in recent years. In feudal Japan, during the Kamakura era, the player encamped Jin Sakai, a samurai who found himself at the heart of the Mongol invasion (by Kubilai Khan – grandson of the great Genghis Khan) on the island of Tsushima. If the developers of Sucker Punch have taken some liberties, the work is so well calibrated that we really have the impression that we are developing in the middle of Japan, whether on horseback or on foot. If you’ve fallen in love with the immersion of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, there is a good chance that it will be the same with a strong character in this epic adventure that draws on the threads of the genre (exploration, combat, craft …) becomes tendency to infiltration. The game had such a positive impact in Japan that directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell have just been elected permanent tourism ambassadors by Tsushima Mayor Hiroki Hitakatsu. Local officials therefore intend to invite the entire team to discover the island as soon as the health situation is good. You will understand, if you like history and great adventures a la Assassin’s Creed Valhalla you should not miss this masterpiece!
