Apparently it was the time of co-op and party games
While the top rankings look similar to the previous two months, a completely different picture emerges further back. Because in December 2024 there were many new releases of older games, which often rely on couch co-op and PvP.
These include titles such as A Way Out, It Takes Two, Minecraft, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. And the long-running favorite Super Mario Party Jamboree has also fought its way back to fourth place.

The picture is deceptive – at least a little
As always, with Nintendo games only physical sales count. Since December is known to be the time of gifts in the Western world, it can be assumed that many games were given away as gifts. This primarily boosts physical sales, as they can ultimately be put under the Christmas tree. This straightens out the actual distorted image of Nintendo somewhat.
Nevertheless, it is noticeable that Nintendo games that place a great focus on interaction are selling better than usual. After all, Nintendo has just released two single-player titles, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Mario & Luigi: Brothership, that would be ideal for the Christmas season.

The Association of the Europe games industry writes about data collection on his website:
The data is collected on the basis of Games Sales Data (GSD), a platform launched by VGE (Video Games Europe) to measure physical and digital sales of video games.
In Europey, in addition to numerous retailers and publishers, digital platforms such as Nintendo eShop, PSN, Steam and Xbox Live also take part in GSD. Digital sales of Nintendo titles from Nintendo eShop are not included.
Nintendo games are rarely represented in the game charts because only physical sales are taken into account. Additionally, subscriptions like Xbox Game Pass and EA Play are not counted, meaning the numbers of games that generate revenue through these offerings are accurate, but somewhat skewed in terms of success.
