The writer behind Avengers: The End of the World says he discovered Robert Downey Jr.
It's obvious that Kevin Feige and other executives at Marvel Studios are cautious about bringing MCU characters back from the dead, although this is a common thing in the comics themselves. There is an argument that it's their death weight that feels heavier, although honestly, my bet on them just doesn't want to be mostly unhappy for fans, especially since they're happy to bring back the cast, just out of different roles. For example, Chris Evans plays Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine, and more notably, Robert Downey Jr.

Personally, this strategy is a bit fancy to me, but if you ask the writer Stephen McFeely, he's on the boat when he hears what the actual idea is. Speaking to Collider, McFeely shared: “When I got the news that this is where to go, I thought it was very electric. Understandably, Robert Downey Jr. could be put.
Obviously, it was completely different from what he felt initially, and he had previously shared only “f**k no”, so obviously the idea was convincing enough to get McFeely around it.
Recently, Marvel started setting shooting dates for Avengers: Apocalypse and Secret War, which is all good, but after a bad second weekend drop for Captain America’s second weekend, Brave New World, you have to wonder if it’s too late.
