More than 20 years after the last “Babylon 5” adventures, the iconic science fiction series returns in the form of an animated film. Is there a reunion with Bruce Boxleitner and Co.?
- “Star Trek” is currently experiencing a second spring, and “Babylon 5” should also be able to do so.
- Warner Bros. and series creator J. Michael Straczynski are planning an animated film based on the cult sci-fi series.
- However, Straczynski releases information about the project only gradually.
J. Michael Straczynski, who is campaigning for the authors and their demands during the current writers’ strike on Twitter, recently promised us more information about a new “Babylon 5” project. Of course, fans had numerous theories, with a new series or a continuation of the old story, in the style of “Star Trek: Picard”, being particularly longed for.
Well, just under a week after the initial announcement, Straczynski came out with the language: Warner Bros. Animation will produce an animated film set in the “Babylon 5” universe. Series creator Straczynski has already written the screenplay – fortunately. Otherwise, the writers’ strike would of course have put obstacles in the way of the project.
Straczynski, being the secretive, is now making us wait another week before we learn the film’s title and more about the cast. It is conceivable that not all of the actors would be willing to return to their old roles, but allowed themselves to be persuaded to appear in an animated film and therefore decided not to convert the project into a live-action film.
After “Star Trek” is currently in great demand again and Amazon is also working on a “Stargate” return after the MGM takeover, Warner Bros. probably wants to test whether money can still be made with “Babylon 5” today. Fans of the series should undoubtedly be very happy about these plans.
