Milio is a brand new Champion coming to League of Legends. As a “back to basics” enchanter, this champion is a more traditional support focused on buffing allies.
Milio, also the second champion from Ixtal, seeks to bring his family back to its former glory by using his mastery of the Axiom of Fire, a tool for healing and supporting others.
Milio’s abilities in League of Legends
Passive – fire!
Milio’s ability enchants allies it touches to cause their next damage to deal a burst of extra damage and burn the target.
Q – Super Fire Kick
Milio kicks a ball that knocks enemies back. The ball launches upwards on impact and falls towards enemies, dealing damage and slowing enemies in the area upon impact.
W – Cozy Campfire
Milio creates an empowerment zone that heals allies and increases the attack range of those inside. The area follows the ally closest to the cast point.
E – warm hug
Mirio throws a shield at allies, temporarily increasing their movement speed.
R – breath of life
Milio unleashes a wave of soothing fire that heals and removes crowd control effects from allies within range.
Milio skin
At launch, Milio will have an additional skin: Wonderland Pavilion! You can see the original art of this new skin below:
First impressions of Milio
In an era where every new League of Legends champion is this super complicated puzzle, full of passages of ability text, it’s cool to see a champion go back to a simpler outfit. However, this isn’t the first time simple support has been released: Yuumi was created to make playing the game easier, but it’s proven to be quite powerful in experienced hands.
On the one hand, heroes like Yuumi and Milio are a great fit for this game, as it allows players with a wide range of skill levels to pick a champion and perform well enough without being a hindrance. Asking a new League of Legends to excel in laning or teamfights as pyke can be tough and new players need time to learn even the basics.
However, while simple-to-execute champions can be decent in the hands of new players, they can be terrifying in the hands of dedicated League of Legends players. When a hero is relatively easy to make a big impact on the game, that hero becomes the priority pick or ban, at least in solo queue.
Obviously, time will tell how much Milio’s influence on the Rift will be. As a side note, it’s pretty cool to see a new enchanter appear at a time when hardwired or poke support seems to be dominating. These days, you’ll often run into Nautilus Maokai or Rak – all heroes that can be difficult to clear with Milio’s CC. The same might be true against Ashes or Verus: we’ll just have to wait and see.
