After a remarkable appearance during the Game Awards ceremony, the Borderlands saga is being talked about again, but this time with seemingly bad news.
A hard blow for fans of Tiny Tina's Wonderland. According to a recent report, it is the sequel to the spin-off of the famous franchise border areas would have been cancelled. Although the project was never officially announced, several clues suggest that it was in development before being shelved.
A sequel that seemed inevitable for Tiny Tina's Wonderlands in the Borderlands universe
Since its release in 2022, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands has won over many players. With its unusual, RPG-inspired universe and typical Borderlands humor, the game had left its mark. A sequel therefore seemed logical. Especially since previous reports claimed that development on Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 was progressing well. Parallel to that Borderlands 4 also made promising progress. Everything seemed to be geared towards expanding the Tiny Tina universe.
The page MP1 pcswho revealed the information relies on several elements to support his comments. First, the ArtStation page of Bemin Jackson, an artist who worked on the project. He lists Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 as “unreleased”. This may simply mean that the game has not been released yet. But it can also indicate that the project was canceled.
Another clue: the LinkedIn profile of Kelvin Ng, a former designer at Lost Boys Interactive, the studio that worked on the first Wonderlands. He mentions an aborted project developed on Unreal Engine 4. Since the first game used the same engine, this suggests that it could be the sequel.
Turbulence in the transmission
This alleged cancellation comes in a special context for Gearbox. The studio was recently purchased by Take-Two Interactive after leaving its previous owner, Embracer Group. This change in direction may have affected current priorities and projects, including Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2. Despite everything, Borderlands 4 still seems to be on the right track. A new trailer was revealed during the Game Awards, scheduled for release in 2025. So fans of the main saga can rest assured.
