This is a problematic FF7 Rebirth bug to say the least for completionists who played the game in the dematerialized version. Unless there is a patch, you may not like the solution.
Particularly diligent trophy hunters made a particularly unfortunate discovery. In the current version of FF7 Rebirth, it seems impossible to platinum the game with a digital version. And the solution to the problem is far from ideal.
The impossible quest for the Platinum trophy in FF7 Rebirth
Obtaining the Platinum trophy in FF7 Rebirth is an achievement in itself as the game is huge and some of the challenges are difficult. Things haven’t gotten any easier with the latest patch. Although it brought highly anticipated changes to the game’s graphics, it brought with it an unfortunate side effect to say the least. The most determined have actually discovered that it is currently impossible to get the Platinum trophy with a dematerialized version of the game.
The secondary quest related to the Chocobo Racing minigame in the Gold Saucer concerns this. For some unknown reason, the game is no longer able to correctly calculate players’ scores since the last patch. It is therefore impossible to recover the valuable trophy associated with the quest and therefore the platinum.
A pure materia solution
At the moment there is only one solution, which is not really ideal. It actually seems necessary to have a physical version of FF7 Rebirth. The PS5 also needs to be disconnected from the internet. Under these two conditions it is possible to uninstall the game from the hard drive and reinstall it. Since the console is not connected to the Internet, the version installed is 1.0, the starting version. This way you can get the famous broken trophy and bypass the unpatched graphics.
Unfortunately, this is not possible with a dematerialized version as the PS5 needs to be connected to the internet to download and install the game. We can bet that the prospect of buying the game for platinum a second time won’t be for everyone in the world. In this case, the only hope is that Square Enix will release a patch soon. And no, this is probably not an April Fool’s joke from the Japanese studio. The bug has actually been reported for a few days and no fix has been provided yet.
