News culture Bad news, this remake of a cult sci-fi series from 30 years ago has just been canceled
This has unfortunately become commonplace in recent years: certain series fail to last longer than a few seasons. Unfortunately for fans, this remake series of another cult sci-fi series has just been canceled.
The remake of a cult series
Some science fiction series have been around for several decades. We think of, for example Doctor Whobut also to Star Trek or even to The twilight zone, to name just the most well-known. But we also found one of the most iconic science fiction series Code Quantum. Originally broadcast between 1989 and 1993, the series consisted of 97 episodes divided into five seasons.
Since 2022, this legendary series has returned to prominence thanks to a remake powered by NBC. Since it was a true sequel rather than a remake, it resumed the original scenario after a jump of 30 years. This time it was Doctor Ben Song (interpreted by Raymond Lee), who managed to travel through time until he got stuck in a time spiral like his predecessor. The principle was more or less the same and the first two seasons were still very successful. Unfortunately the second season has just ended, NBC just confirmed that Code Quantum will not be renewed for a third season.
A heartbreaking rejection
On February 20, American viewers were able to watch the final episode of Quantum Code’s second season. The latter was also conceived as a two-hour special episode, even though the producers did not yet know that the series would be canceled. A blessing that allowed fans to still have some sort of closure, even if it also marked the start of a possible third season. The two main actors each wrote a press release on Instagram to share their fans’ disappointment:
I just wanted to say thank you to all the Quantum Code fans and everyone who watched the series. Your support was always felt very warmly. You all helped make this series the adventure of a lifetime. We are so proud of the series we made and even prouder of the stories we were able to tell. But I’m also very happy with the great friends I met along the way. When a new group finds the time accelerator, may they watch us floating through time, still repairing what was broken. –Raymond Lee
I’m so sorry to have to say “Farewell, Springer.” Thank you for every moment of this incredible journey. And thank you to NBC and Universal for the adventure of a lifetime. As Quantum Code superfan Matt Dale said, “Be great to each other.”
You will have understood that the cancellation of this series has left a damn bitter taste in the mouth of both all the fans and the creative team that brought it to life. Since Code Quantum existed 30 years ago and already had its first remake, maybe we can hope for a new version in a few years? Only the future will tell us.
