Larian, the developer of Baldur’s Gate 3 is already warning you: With the next patch, your previous saved games will be unusable. But there is a way you can keep using it anyway.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is still in Early Access, but players have invested dozens of hours into the role-playing game. Patch 3, which Larian recently announced, will change parts of the story for the first time, which means that old savegames may no longer be compatible. This will also be the case with upcoming patches, as Larian sees this type of development as part of the Early Access process.
However, the studio offers an alternative solution for players who absolutely want to continue their savegame. Baldur’s Gate 3 already exists on Steam as a beta branch on Steam. There the game should stay as it is. However, you will not be able to use any changes or bug fixes with the upcoming updates. If you load the beta branch today, you will bypass the latest build. Larian recommends that players turn off automatic updates until they decide they might want to use the updated version after all.
It is unclear whether Stadia players are also so lucky. However, based on the way the system works, it cannot be assumed. Patch 3 has not yet received a specific date. It is also not certain whether every upcoming update will be incompatible with previous savegames.
