EA and DICE have already confirmed several times that they will make the battered Battlefield 2042 ship seaworthy again. This includes, among other things, a revision of the existing and new concepts for future maps.
Battlefield 2042 is pretty bumpy. The number of players is in the basement, the feedback from the fans is devastating. Nevertheless, EA and DICE want to try to give the game a boost. For this reason, a number of existing maps are to be revised, and lessons are also drawn from this for future maps.
The maps have become quite huge due to the increase in the number of players to 128, which has the disadvantage, however, that the gameplay is very spread out and the paths have become enormously long. To counteract this, the base spawns and flags should now be rearranged to shorten the paths and thus increase the fight time.
Chaotic Breakthrough mode is also checked. It is currently being examined whether the number of players will be reduced from 128 to 64 or whether the vehicle spawn will be limited. Another point of criticism is the numerous open areas in the room, which offer too little cover. Appropriate conversions are intended to reduce the focus on long-range combat, including more cover options on the way between mission objectives. The map Kaleidoscope is mentioned here as an example of how it shouldn’t be.
However, the changes to the maps will take time, that much is clear. The current goal is to release at least one revision of Kaleidoscope over the course of Season One, with more maps to follow. The aspects mentioned should also be taken into account when designing new maps; among other things, the maps should be more compact and less sprawling. A reduction in sectors and capture points is also being considered so that the action is not stretched too far.
Is that enough to give the game a second spring?
