It is well known that DICE is working on a new battlefield. What exactly awaits us, but less. A well-known leaker is now giving clues as to what might happen to us.
So far we only know that DICE is working on a new installment in the Battlefield franchise to be released this year. More detailed information about the content of the game is not yet available. Leaker Tom Henderson now claims to have learned a lot from the DICE environment, allegedly from people who are informed about DICE’s plans.
Accordingly, Battlefield 6 could be a soft reboot that, similar to Battlefield 3, relies on a modern setting. Surprisingly, the game should not be released exclusively for PC and the new consoles, versions for PS4 and Xbox One would also be an issue. Economically, that would make perfect sense. This should not be at the expense of the next-gen versions, allegedly a completely different team would be working on the version for the old consoles. The same should then be a lot more limited than the next-gen versions, among other things with regard to the targeted number of 128 players in multiplayer matches.
Obviously, there is still a lack of clarity regarding a battle royale mode. It was in work, but a final implementation is still open. In view of the number of players and the success of the competition (CoD: Warzone), a battle royale would still be an option. Of course, this information should be treated with caution. But it will be interesting to see what DICE and EA will conjure up after the long battlefield break in order to become real competition for Call of Duty again.
