We'll save you having to retell the great reparations for Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and get straight to the point: after over two years, 25 updates and dozens of free DLCs, the era of DICE's Star Wars shooter is drawing to a close. And to celebrate the past one last time, the developers end up with a bang.
The Scarif update not only brings you that on April 29, 2020 new location from Rogue One
There are also new outfits, including Palpatine's look from Episode 9 as well Rey's yellow lightsaber. Darth Maul also gets an alternative skin from the Clone Wars series. You can find all details about the new update in this video:
The last update for Battlefront 2
In a detailed community posting, creative director Dennis Brännvall talks about the end of the Battlefront 2 era. The servers and automated live events (e.g. double experience points at the weekend) will of course remain online, but the development team is turning to new projects – very similar to Battlefield 5.
"Beyond April, we're moving into a new phase where servers, in-game challenges, recurring events, and general support will continue to make the game a rich experience in the future. That also means that we're moving away from regular content- Updates. The game will live on through the players and our community – and we're looking forward to all of the stories you'll have to tell over the next few years. "
Does that suggest that we shouldn't expect Battlefront 3 this year? Perhaps. Either way, the servers stay online, the battles continue. Our editorial assessment:
Dimitry Halley: The Scarif update is exactly the big bang that Battlefront 2 should stop. Sure, the content updates would of course continue for years in my personal dream country, but it had been clear for months that the end of the current console generation would bring about a break for Battlefront. In an all-round package, fans now not only get the last missing era – the original trilogy – for capital supremacy mode, they also get the necessary single player content to regularly gamble a few tricks. Eventually the servers will gradually empty out, that's just the way it is.
