The Lamplighters League could shorten your waiting time for XCOM 3.
Do you remember Harebrained Schemes? The developers behind Shadowrun and Battletech have been working behind closed doors for the past four years on their latest work, which they have now announced.
Like their previous titles, too The Lamplighters League a turn-based tactical role-playing game with battles à la XCOM – and there is also a cool and really fresh setting.
Here’s what to expect in The Lamplighters League
What kind of game is this? The Lamplighters League is set in an alternate version of the 1930s. You take command of the eponymous League of Enlightened to save the world from an evil cult known as Burned courtyard
to protect.
The developers don’t say it, but the villains are obviously Nazis who perform occult rituals and have magical skills.
With the great heroes of the Enlightened League gone, you must recruit replacements and assemble a motley crew of charming villains, greedy tomb robbers, and quirky scientists to put a stop to the looming threat.

Indiana Jones meets XCOM in the Lamplighters League trailer
Anyone who has ever played tactical games like XCOM will quickly find their way around here. You can expect percentage hit chances and movement over a grid playing field. It even features XCOM 2’s infiltration phase, where you can take out stray guards and position yourself in the best possible position.
Perhaps a small drop of bitterness: Instead of training random recruits like in XCOM, you gradually collect ready-made heroes in The Lamplighters League. These can also be upgraded and individualized, but the charm of a really independently built troop is missing.
There is no specific release date yet, but according to developer Harebrained and publisher Paradox, the game should be released in 2023.
