Former Angel Hunting and Witch voice actor Helena Taylor Her original series of videos has been detailed and claimed she’s absent from Bayonetta 3’s main VO role, seemingly confirming the findings of Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier last week. This includes confirming that she did receive $15,000 initially, not $4,000 as initially implied.
The update comes from a Twitter thread posted to the actor’s Twitter feed, in which she said she “felt the need to defend myself and my reputation.” She said claims she received $4,000 in five sessions were “completely fabricated” and continued to encourage supporters to boycott Bayonetta 3 as it nears its Oct. 28 release date.
The statement appears to be an attempt to disprove Bloomberg’s claims, and there appears to be no other evidence to substantiate the report. At one point in the article, the claim that she was asking for a six-figure paycheck for the game work seems to have been spurned by Talyor, who said she was told ridiculous fiction like I’m asking for $250,000, a figure not reported by Bloomberg.
This update has led many to believe that the voice actors are undervalued, and while Taylor’s own claim is true, the question is indeed plausible, but it’s actually more thorny. For some, the update introduced new information not originally present in the video that sparked the topic, a number that had to be discovered by reporters, undermining her claims. For others, the desire to be paid fairly for the important work of the popular franchise outweighs the flaws.
Hellena Taylor ended her thread with what appeared to be a dig at Jason Schrier’s reporting, writing, “There are people trying to discredit and discredit what I’m saying. The industry is strong, and they have strong journalists.” As the world approaches its release , it remains to be seen whether her call for a boycott will maintain momentum after this development.
