Nintendo is preparing the arrival of Gamecube games on Nintendo Switch 2 … but a detail about the new official controller is already fascinated by the players. What do we know?
Nintendo recently increased the veil to an accessory that should delight the retrogaming fans: a new GameCube controller that was specially developed for the Nintendo Switch. A controller who accompanies the arrival of the first GameCube games on the future console. But be careful, a detail quickly raised the players' attention.
A restriction … to put 2 accessory in the right perspective for this Nintendo Switch 2 Accessoire?
Officially, this new Pad GameCube would only be compatible with retro games from the “Nintendo GameCube: Nintendo Classics” collection on Nintendo Switch 2. Confirmed information in a presentation video and given in a small text at the end of the video. This restriction may seem disappointing on paper. But regular guests of Nintendo consoles know that this type of precision is not necessarily engraved in marble.
In the past, other retro controllers marketed by Nintendo were only known as compatible with the corresponding games via the Switch Online Service. In fact, however, they also worked with other games. Of course within the border of technical restrictions (number of keys, sticks …).
The case of this new Gamecube controller could therefore follow the same way. Technically speaking, it should be able to be recognized as a pro controller in certain Switch 2 games. The whole thing does not require the sticks, a missing function in the original model.
Three GameCube games available at the start
Nintendo confirmed that GameCube would arrive as soon as the Nintendo Switch 2 is started, which is planned for June 5, 2025. The first three announced titles are expected classics:
- The legend of Zelda: The Windwaker
- Soulcalibur 2
- F-Zero GX
These games benefit from visual improvements, customizable controls and even the online multiplayer mode. Last important detail: This GameCube controller is not sold freely in the shops. The members of the Nintendo Switch are reserved online and only offered for the buyers of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the official My Nintendo Store. A choice that strengthens its “collector's side”, but will probably also limit its accessibility.
