In the test, the Beats Studio Buds true wireless headphones show some parallels to Apple’s AirPods Pro, for example when it comes to noise canceling. However, there are big differences, especially in terms of price.

Fits in every ear
The Beats Studio Buds are more than just “AirPods Pro for Android users”, but of course they benefit from the uncomplicated coupling with both the iPhone and Android smartphones. The ANC filters effectively, the sound is tuned in such a way that it meets with as much approval as possible out there. In the test, we were mainly bothered by the little things that can be annoying in daily use.
We liked that
- Compatible with most cell phones
- Pleasant sound
- Good ANC
We didn’t like that
- Fummeliger Umgang
- No auto stop
- No wireless charging

Conclusion & alternatives
With these wireless in-ear headphones, I am at war right at the start of the test. They keep falling out of my hands. At first when you try to pull it out of the associated charging case with your pointed fingers. Then try the other way around to get it back into the power case.
At war
Beats makes it unnecessarily difficult for me. Which is the left, which is the right? A letter on the back of the earphones that is barely recognizable due to the color chosen on our red test headphones should provide information about this. And again they slip out of my fingers.
I build mnemonics. “If the company logo, a“ b ”, on the charging case indicates to me, the two“ b ”on the earphones become a“ 6. ”Removing and inserting headphones should be intuitive, but not in this case.
I immediately imagine myself handling these in-ears after a beer or two at the subway stop on a Saturday night and already catch myself with “that wouldn’t have happened to Apple” on my lips.
Beats Studio Buds vs. Apple AirPods Pro: These are the differences
the AirPods Pro almost slip into the charging case on their own, but also cost a whole lot more. What we do with the significant differences between AirPods Pro and Beats Studio Buds would be. Because they exist, although Beats is an Apple brand and you can buy both AirPods and Studio Buds in the Apple Store.
- Price: The Beats Studio Buds cost 150 dollars. The Airpods Pro from Apple are available for 280 dollars.
- Design: The AirPods Pro have a stem and are therefore larger. The Studio Buds, on the other hand, have built in a small button.
- The Beats Studio Buds do not have the H1 chip, so they do not support 3D audio when playing films.
- The Studio Buds are natively compatible with Android smartphones, the AirPods Pro are not.
- Both models have active noise filtering, both models have exchangeable silicone attachments.
- Both headphones have a charging case that can charge the in-ears stored in them. With the Beats models, there is no way to charge the case wirelessly.
- The Studio Buds are available in three different colors. The AirPods are always white.
Fit, design and battery life
The Beats headphones fit me well. Thanks to differently sized attachments made of silicone, they threaten True wireless headphones not to fall out of the ear even when moving. When inserting the device, there is always the risk of accidentally starting the music playback because touching the large buttons is inevitable.
Beats Studio Buds
The charging case is slightly larger than that of the AirPods Pro. The manufacturer promises a battery life of up to eight hours with deactivated noise canceling. Empty headphones can fully recharge the accompanying case twice.
When using the noise suppression, the running time is reduced to 5/15 hours. As with the AirPods, the discharged test headphones last five minutes in the case to be able to chat for a little longer than an hour afterwards.
ANC: Noise canceling works that well
If we take the pure filter quality as a benchmark, our current front runner is with the ANC headphones with a clear distance to the competition of Apple AirPods Max. That too Noise Cancelling der AirPods Pro convinced us. Does the noise filtering work just as well on the Beats headphones?
Yes. Subjectively, the Studio Buds filter out background noise just as well as Apple’s sister model. This is especially successful when the frequencies remain the same. If we stand in front of a switched-on microwave, the hum of the ventilation reaches our ears in a very muffled manner. A negligibly low background noise is present in ANC operation. The Studio Buds offer a practical transparency mode.
Hearing test
We have the Beats Studio Buds with the Music streaming services Tried Spotify and Apple Music. The latter because the test headphones support Dolby Atmos playback. It should be mentioned that, in contrast to Apple’s AirPods, the Beats headphones do not offer 3D audio / spatial audio for video playback, as they lack the U1 chip required for spatial assignment.
This is a shame, because anyone who has ever watched a video in this way and experienced how one’s own head movements change the sound no longer wants to do without the feature.
Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody in Dolby Digital: This track is running up and down on the tester’s private AirPods Max. At first I didn’t really warm to the sound of the expensive over-ear headphones from Apple, but the re-release of the track in Dolby Digital breathed new life into it.
Dolby Digital tracks are perfect for that Testing headphones, because the desire to reach for the equalizer – if still available at all – is no longer necessary. The tracks are perfectly mixed, no controller experiments required.
The studio buds also bring the track cautiously at first, then more forcefully into the ear canals, only to explode in the grand finale of the song at the latest. “So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye? So you think you can love me and leave me to die?” The Studio Buds rock along well, the guitars peel off nicely from the rest of the noise without overlaying Mercury’s voice.
Vulfpeck, Dean Town: Beats headphones once had the reputation of being bass monsters that swallow nuances. Teenagers with a well-defined plan for hearing damage, following the football idol who wears Beats headphones solely on the basis of advertising contracts, took a liking to it. Then Apple took over the brand and the coordination of most models became more compatible with the masses, more adult in the truest sense of the word.
Who cares when Dean Town by Vulfpeck is on, everyone wants bass. Hard bass. Dry, razor-sharp machine gun bass, the force of which knocks nails into concrete walls if necessary. The Beats Studio Buds deliver without looking strained. You haven’t forgotten the low notes on Beats – luckily.

The Beats headphones are not the first choice for conscious listening to music in front of the fireplace in the wing chair. We miss some details that we only recently discovered thanks to Dolby Digital. The in-ear headphones have weaknesses, but anything but a weakness, when it comes to the treble and the reproduction of voices.
Björk knocks on our test playlist several times and it doesn’t really crackle. The Icelandic woman’s voice in “Stonemilker” is more thin than mystical. If we skip a few more songs, we come across Devin Townsend’s complex Spirits Will Collide. Here we miss the space, too much goes under.
The bottom line, however, and with a view to the price tag, is the sound. On the way to work, to school or during sports there is usually no time for the very fine details anyway and we would give a well-filtering ANC priority over a high level of detail, image performance and spatiality. The majority of buyers will be extremely satisfied with the sound of the Beats Studio Buds. Nodding word of honor.
We also noticed that
- The silicone attachments of the AirPods Pro do not fit those of the Beats headphones and vice versa.
- Studio Buds do not automatically pause music when you pull it out of your ear. This can put unnecessary strain on the battery.
- The function of the physical buttons can be specified in the settings.
