Ubisoft’s open-world sci-fi game Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been stuck in development hell for years, but is now showing signs of recovery, according to recent reports.
According to a report from Kotaku’s Ethan Gach, there are still signs of life for the game despite the company’s recent turmoil. Just yesterday, reports surfaced that the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team was disbanding and being moved around the company. Earlier this month, there were also reports that Tencent was considering acquiring Ubisoft amid a sharp decline in its stock price.

According to Kotaku, Beyond Good and Evil 2 recently reached a milestone within the company, and executives seem pleased with the game’s progress. Additionally, sources at Kotaku say the team finally feels like the game has found its footing after years of tumultuous development. The game has experienced intense staff turnover, the death of late creative director Emile Morel, and the departure of senior employees amid bad press about the company.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 made a splash on the gaming scene when it was re-released in 2017, even though it was originally released way back in 2008! Ubisoft even brought in Joseph Gordon-Levitt to promote the game, urging fans to submit their own artwork to be incorporated into the game, though Levitt and Ubisoft have largely been inactive on that aspect of the project since then remain silent. Over the next few years, there was largely radio silence from the official side, aside from statements assuring fans that the game was still in development.
Hopefully we’ll see more of this game in the coming years. It’s easy to joke about the game, especially since it’s been absent for so many years. But with Ubisoft desperate for a hit game and the positive response to the Beyond Good and Evil remake, there’s still plenty of interest in a new Beyond Good and Evil game.
