That The Last of Us series is being an absolute success is no surprise. HBO is reaping some colossal audience data with the chapters starring Peter Pascal y Bella Ramsey. Precisely the actress who plays Ellie has been questioned about the future of the project and her feelings so far.
Through GQ UK, we have been able to know that the rapport between Pascal and Ramsey is total, since the interpreter qualifies as non-binary and both had many conversations about gender and sexuality. “And they weren’t always deep: they could be funny and humorous, the whole spectrum. We were very honest and open with each other,” Ramsey clarifies. These are precisely the themes that revolve around The Last of Us Part II and that we will probably see in the second season of the series.
“I think that [la serie] it will probably follow the story of the games again”, explains Ramsey, who has already met with the writers to discuss the future batch of episodes. Abby or Lev are characters that will necessarily appear, which They were heavily criticized at the time for their sexuality or physical appearance, just like Ellie and Dina’s romance. Regarding the possible rejection that occurs in the second season, Ramsey is more than clear:
“I’m not particularly anxious about it. I know people will think what they want to think. But they’ll have to get used to it. If you don’t want to watch the show because it has gay stories, because it has a trans character, that’s up to you and you’re missing out. It’s not going to scare me. I think that comes from a place of rebellion.”
Precisely Ian Alexander, actor in charge of taking the role of Lev in the Naughty Dog game, has pointed out in Insider that he would love to reprise his role for the series, despite the hate he received.
“Con The Last of Us Parte II, With Lev, there was a lot of backlash, a lot of transphobic backlash, from fans of the game who didn’t want to see a transgender character in the game. It was really heartbreaking because, in the original game, there was a queer representation. There were Bill and Frank. I’m glad they’re making LGBTQ representation more explicit and fairer…obviously queer. I’d love to see more of that.”
In any case, Ramsey has claimed to be very committed to the HBO production. “Signing on a show is a big risk, because if I hate this, then I’m potentially tied to it for years, and I didn’t want to be tied to something I didn’t enjoy. But honestly i would do this for years“, he points out without hesitation.
