With The Last of Us series approaching for HBO, its directors and producers are revealing new details about what we can expect next month. In fact, we already know how long the first episode will last, which will keep us glued to the screen for a while.
Regarding the actors we have Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie embodying the leading duo and precisely Craig Mazin has referred to the latter. In an interview with SFX Magazinethe showrunner of the series has made it clear that Ramsey is “the most outstanding actress” for the role.
Mazin admits that choosing Joel’s actor was much easier, but the process of casting Ellie was really laborious. “Ellie took longer because it’s a harder role to cast. We’re trying to cast a 14-year-old girl, and acting is an incredibly difficult thing to do, right? (…) And children have not had as much experience in life. It’s hard to find kids who can embody this.”
The casting was really long with more than 100 people and with the feeling in mind that it would not find the right actress for Neil Druckmann, director of The Last of Us Part II. “I was terrified that [a Druckmann] he wouldn’t like it and I would have to live the rest of my life knowing that we couldn’t have the best ellie ever. But happily, he loved her. And we couldn’t have done it better.”
Once again, we are talking about a rather emphatic statement by Mazin, who has already stated that the Naughty Dog game has the best plot ever told in the history of video games. We will see the result of all the work from January 15, 2023.
