Six years after its release, Crytek’s popular extraction shooter Hunt Showdown is about to see a big and welcome change.
Hunt Showdown is the exact opposite of Escape from Tarkov, but belongs to the same genre and, despite being released in 2018, has managed to secure a comfortable place for itself. Many players are still active. But something is about to change in Crytek’s Wild West universe that doesn’t only want good things for us. The German studio to whom we owe Crysis and the Cry Engine is actually stepping up a gear with its latest license.
Hunt Showdown changes its attitude after six years
Hunt Showdown had left its mark at the time with its very intriguing and original vision of the extraction shooter genre. In fact, its plot was located in an inhospitable bayou inhabited by horrific creatures that we had to track down in order to earn a living and better equip ourselves for subsequent hunts, while also eliminating other competitors. It created the most oppressive atmosphere possible. Combined with the pressure of other teams of players who could defeat us at any moment, Crytek’s title had clearly made an impression.
After six years, Hunt Showdown is finally changing, as the German studio announced this week the creation of a brand new chapter of its silence, subtitled 1896, with a release scheduled for August 15. Leave the bayou, now it’s time for the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The franchise also takes the opportunity to be released only on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. The versions for PS4 and Xbox One were actually sacrificed on the altar of this perilous journey. Crytek also takes the opportunity to present the latest version 5.11 of its impressive in-house Cry Engine.
Hunt Showdown 1896 was already great in 2018 and will amaze us even more with its new setting, not counting the balls of the opposing players whistling in our ears. In any case, we’ll see you on August 15th on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series to see this new version of Crytek’s terrifying extraction shooter.
