Electronic Arts has stamped the Black Panther game that was already under development and at the same time closes the responsible studio.
Marvel fans have to be strong, because a new game that is actually planned will no longer appear. The game is meant to Black Panther, which was in work at Cliffhanger Games and was to be released via Electronic Arts. However, the publisher has now surprisingly pulled the plug.
First of all, the American colleagues from IGN reports on the attitude. Accordingly, Laura Miele, President at EA Entertainment, left an internal email from the stack in which the decisions were informed. In the future, one wants to “sharpen the focus and bundle creative energy with the most significant growth opportunities”.
And further: “These decisions are hard. They affect people with whom we have worked with, from which we have learned and with whom we shared real moments. We do everything to support them as best as possible – including finding new opportunities within EA; we already had success to help people find new roles.”
You can already see it in the choice of words: The attitude of Black Panther is also associated with the closure of the developer studio Cliffhanger Games. In the future, EA wants to focus on historically strong and successful game brands such as Battlefield, the Sims, Skate and Apex Legends. In addition, the game around Iron Man remains in progress, as well as Bioware's new Mass Effect and Respawn's new Star Wars Jedi.
Black Panther was originally announced by Marvel Games, EA and Cliffhanger Games in 2023. The title was part of a deal with Marvel, which included a total of three video games. This was still a third-person action game with single player focus that will never see the light of day.
