To save Whinny, Vault Hunter encountered one of them on the secret trail of eldritch Borderlands 3: Guns, Love, and TentaclesMore frustrating boss: Empowered Scholar.
To destroy this enhanced version of an already strong enemy, you need to use high damage or inflammable primary weapons during the first phase of the battle. I used Vigorous Scoville, the handsome Jackpot DLC, because its splash damage is a great help to the mob.
Next, you need corrosive weapons that can be used in the second, third and fourth stages of battle. I used the Pestilent Vicious Lyuda sniper rifle, but any non-a shotgun corrosive weapon can be used normally.
Then you need to use the impact weapon to deal with the shield in the third and fourth stages of the battle. From the handsome award DLC again, I used Storming Guttiwuts ION CANNON.
How to Defeat Empowered Scholars in Borderlands 3: Guns, Love, and Tentacles
I embedded a video on it that beat my "empowered scholar" so you can keep learning.
Empowered scholars work a little differently than many of the leaders' battles in Borderlands 3. Normally, you want to spawn mobs (weaker enemies) to trigger a battle for life.
But with an authorized scholar, he will grab the regular enemies that are summoned, make them invincible, and knock them over to you over and over again.
To solve this problem, you either need to use a high damage weapon with huge splash damage to quickly destroy them, or ignore them completely and focus on empowering scholars. Back away from the onslaught enemy, you should still be able to hit the scholar.
The only way to stop them is to reduce the health of empowered scholars, so don't waste bullets.
About halfway through life, scholars will blow up the remaining enemies and surround themselves with force fields.
Switch to a corrosive weapon and shoot the four "shards" around. Doing so will release empowered scholars and resume fighting.
Return to your primary weapon, reduce its health in the same way, and reduce it by about a third.
Scholars will now teleport to the elevated platform in the corner of the map. Switch to corrosive weapons and see debris from the main battlefield.
Next, you need to jump on floating platforms and then ride them behind the academic's force field. Here is another fragment to destroy.
The next clip in the air is stupid.
It's unclear what you intend to do, and is probably the most likely thing to kill you in battle.
Staying on the floating platform for too long will kill you. So you need to look down and then jump to the long, straight section of the rock platform below.
Skip to 2:10 in the embedded video above for visual effects.
Back in the central arena, empowered scholars now have a huge shield that you need to erase with an electric shock weapon. Using anything else is not feasible.
You can then switch back to your primary weapon and reduce its health.
Next, it teleports to the other side of the area and protects itself with another force field.
Repeat what you did on the other side. Switch to a corrosive weapon, ping the debris, ride the platform, and look down the edge to see the longer part of the platform that can safely jump to.
There are five fragments to be destroyed this time.
You are now in the final stages of the battle and authorized scholars will have shields and armor to deal with. Use your impact and corrosive weapons accordingly, then complete the mission with burners.
In the final part of the battle, things can get a little busy, so keep in mind that if you fall, you can get a second wind with a weaker enemy. Focus on authorized scholars, and eventually it will collapse.
