The video game adaptation Borderlands is currently making headlines, but not in the way the makers probably expected. The film is currently considered one of the worst new releases of the year and is in danger of becoming a complete financial flop. As if all of that wasn’t enough, Uwe Boll has also spoken out, and he is an absolute expert on gruesome trash films.
If you don’t know Uwe Boll, you’re in luck. The German director, screenwriter and producer currently holds the record for the most video game adaptations produced. Unfortunately, most of them are of a lower quality. Boll himself once said that he took the licenses for cheap games, then used German film funding and finally produced them “cheaply” in order to make easy money. His biggest successes include Alone in the Dark (2005), Farcry (2008) and Postal (2007).
In April 2008, there was even an official anti-Boll petition, because Boll’s inferior productions would ruin all opportunities for people who wanted to make good video game adaptations in the future.
In response to the petition with over 250,000 signatures, Boll stated in a response video that he was the only genius in the film business and that Michael Bay, Eli Roth and George Clooney had no talent anyway.
With this background, you can really savor Boll’s tweet about the Borderlands movie.
According to Boll, his films made more money and were at least rated 18+. That’s why we now wish he had made the film. In the comments, he was quickly disabused of this with official figures, which Boll denied.
If you believe the critics and viewers, then Borderlands may not be a good film, but whether it is so bad that Uwe Boll can make fun of it is questionable.
