‘Brand new Mafia project’ confirmed to be in development

Finally, it’s finally confirmed that a “brand new” Mafia game is in development. To celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary, we’re sharing an inside interview with Hangar 13.

As of this month, it’s been two decades since the Mafia series debuted in Mafia: The Lost City of Paradise, and it’s certainly come a long way since then. As a tribute, General Manager Roman Hladík and Head of Production/Media Director Tomáš Hřebíček – who have been involved in every game in the series – sat down to review Mafia and share some dazzling new information with fans . They are also joined by another Hangar 13 game director, Alex Cox, who has been with them since Mafia 2.

Towards the end of the interview, the team was asked what’s next for the Mafia series, to which Roman Horadric replied: “I’m delighted to confirm that we’ve started work on a brand new Mafia project! Although it’s still a few years away. We can’t share more information now, and we’re really excited to continue working on this much-loved team and entertain our players with new stories.”

Overall, the interview shared a ton of insights on how the trio got involved in Mafia, their proudest achievements, favorite games, opinions on the score, and more. However, the highlight of the entire 20th anniversary is the news of a new game in the Mafia series.

There’s no word on what the game will contain, or whether it’ll be called Mafia 4 or something else. As Hladík said, it looks like we’ll have to wait a few more years before we have a more concrete idea of ​​what to expect. Regardless, it’s good news that fans of the series will return for more mob rule sooner or later.

For those unaware, the Mafia series is a series of action-adventure games that transport players into gangster life from the 1930s to the 1960s. In an open-world setting, you can explore fictional cities modeled after Chicago, New York, and New Orleans as thugs run amok. Overall, the series has been widely praised for its narrative and realism, although Mafia 3 leaves something to be desired for many. Hopefully Mafia 4 or the next installment in the series ends up being called Mafia, more like Mafia.
