What better way to start the year than by breaking your own record? Steam, Valve’s platform on PC, seems to have no limits… despite the fact that recently many users have once again questioned its quality filters due to the launch of The Day Before.
It turns out that Steam has broken its record for concurrent players just at the beginning of 2024. It was in January 2023 when it registered 32,162,987 online users, of which 10,082,055 were playing. In 2024, it has reached a whopping 33,677,198 players, of which 10.6 million were enjoying their Christmas games, according to their own website
If we look at the figures, Steam has had growth to take into account over the last few years. And what are all these players playing? Some of the top games are free-to-play, others are legends like GTA V and some more recent like Baldur’s Gate 3. At the time of writing this post, the list is as you can see in the following image.
We don’t know how much Steam will grow throughout 2024, but you better prepare because the GTA 6 tsunami will arrive in 2025 and it is very likely that this will mean a very brutal growth of players in the best of cases. And in the worst case, Steam can be destroyed for hours or days.
