Bridgerton Season 3: This is what awaits us in the great love story of Colin and Penelope

After Anthony found his true love in the second season of “Bridgerton”, it is now his little brother Colin’s turn in the third season and thus precedes his older brother Benedict. Netflix has already officially renewed the series for Season 3 and Season 4.

“Bridgerton”: When is season 3 coming?

“Bridgerton” season 3 is coming to Netflix later than expected. Before the new episodes started, the “Bridgerton” spin-off “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” was published in May 2023.

Due to the spin-off and the now ended scriptwriters’ and actors’ strikes, season 3 of “Bridgerton” was significantly delayed. However, it is now clear that the new episodes will appear in two parts. Part 1 of “Bridgerton” Season 3 will be released on May 16, 2024, while Part 2 will be released on June 13, 2024.

Bridgerton Season 3: Trailer and Pictures

We can probably only expect a real trailer for the third season of “Bridgerton” shortly before the series is released. However, there is already a first behind-the-scenes video for the third season of “Bridgerton”.

In addition, numerous pictures have already been published, giving us an insight into the upcoming love drama of the popular British family. The focus of these pictures is of course Penelope and Colin, but the other Bridgertons are not neglected either.

Bridgerton Season 3: Plot

Each “Bridgerton” season features the love life of one of the eight Bridgerton children. Season 3 was supposed to focus on Benedict Bridgerton, the second eldest son of Edmund and Violet. But now it is clear that the order of the love stories will be changed for the series. This may also allow Eloise to get ahead of her brother.

Season 3 of the Netflix series shows us the romance between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton. The fourth book in Julia Quinn’s novel series is dedicated to them. We’ll probably see Benedict’s story in a later season.

Since “only” an extension up to and including season 4 has been confirmed, the more popular characters of the “Bridgerton” universe will probably be preferred in order to ensure a further continuation up to season 8.

According to Netflix’s official season description, Penelope has given up hope that Colin would ever feel anything for her. That’s why she starts looking for a suitable husband. Colin, of all people, gives her tips and gradually begins to fall in love with her.

Meanwhile, the situation between Penelope and Eloise Bridgerton has not eased. This has to do with a new friendship that Eloise has made. Penelope also struggles to keep her alter ego, Lady Whistledown, a secret.

We know this from book 4 “Penelope’s Spicy Secret” by Julia Quinn

If you’re afraid of spoilers, you shouldn’t read any further, but we’ll tell you what’s known from Book 4 of the Julia Quinn novels and how the story could be adapted for the series.

In “Penelope’s Spicy Secret,” Colin Bridgerton returns to London after 12 years of traveling. Penelope Featherington is looking forward to her boyfriend, with whom she has always secretly been in love. However, she has now come to terms with the fact that she takes on the role of an old maid in society as she is still not married.

Now Colin no longer sees her as just his sister Eloise’s shy best friend, but realizes that Penelope is a smart, funny and talented woman. While the rest of London’s high society is looking for Lady Whistledown, who still writes her gossip magazine, Colin and Penelope become closer and closer.

Lady Danbury promises a £1,000 reward to whoever reveals Lady Whistledown’s identity. Penelope learns that Colin kept diaries during his travels and is very enthusiastic about his writing style. During a discussion about it, the two kiss.

At the upcoming ball, Colin wants to apologize for his disreputable behavior, but Cressida Cowper suddenly announces that she is Lady Whistledown. So he postpones his apology until the following day. But he then catches Penelope taking her latest gossip magazine to her publisher and realizes that she is Lady Whistledown.

He confronts her, an argument breaks out and suddenly Colin realizes that he loves Penelope and he becomes very close to her. He proposes marriage to Penelope and she accepts it. When Cressida finds out about Penelope’s secret, she tries to blackmail her. But strengthened by her marriage to Colin, Penelope herself reveals that she is Lady Whistledown.

Penelope then supports her husband in rewriting his travel diaries into real novels and publishing them. She has now given up her work as a whistledown and is concentrating entirely on her work as an editor.

During Penelope’s plot, Eloise’s love story is also hinted at. Eloise disappears at a party for her sister Dephne, which is why she only finds out about Penelope’s true identity a few weeks later at her own wedding.

So the book could be adapted into the series

In the series the story will play out a little differently. Some aspects of the book were already covered in season 2, with Colin returning from his trip to Greece. So a 12-year time jump is unlikely in the series. Feelings between Penelope and Colin were already evident in the last season, but he still dismisses them.

The element of surprise with Lady Whistledown’s revelation is also eliminated, as we have known since season 1 that Penelope is behind the gossip paper. Her secret causes a falling out with her best friend Eloise Bridgerton at the end of season 2.

Cressida’s attempt to blackmail Penelope with the truth could at least lead to Eloise and Penelope getting along again. Eloise is the only person, besides Madame Delacroix, who knows that Penelope is Lady Whistledown.

Perhaps in Penelope’s plight, she realizes that her friend was just doing her a favor in Season 2 when she revealed a secret of Eloise’s as Lady Whistledown. At least Penelope was able to dissuade the queen from punishing Eloise for the tabloid, even though she had nothing to do with it.

Bridgerton Season 3: Cast

Nicola Coughlan will reprise the role of Penelope Featherington, while Colin Bridgerton will continue to be played by Luke Thompson. The other actors and actresses also return in their well-known roles.

However, Francesca Bridgerton was recast. Hannah Dodd will now play Bridgerton’s daughter after Ruby Stokes was conspicuously absent in previous seasons due to other acting engagements.

Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Basset will also not be there in season 3. Just like with fellow actress Ruby Stokes, this is due to other commitments. However, a return for a later season is not out of the question for the Brit.

Daniel Francis, Sam Phillips and James Phoon are also new in season 3. Francis takes on the role of Marcus Anderson, a charismatic socialite who some members of London’s polite society dislike.

Phillips plays Lord Debling, an eccentric aristocrat who is idolized by the young ladies because of his title and wealth. Phoon, who plays Harry Dankworth, is also considered extremely attractive.

Bridgerton Season 3: Production

Production on “Bridgerton” Season 3 is in full swing and filming has already been completed. The new season will probably consist of eight episodes. The series is produced by Shonda Rhimes’ company Shondaland. The mastermind behind the series is showrunner and producer Chris Van Dusen.

Bridgerton: “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” spin-off

The romantic love stories in “Bridgerton” are far from over with the eight Bridgerton siblings. The romance of Queen Charlotte and King George is also told in the spin-off “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story”. The marriage of the two noblemen was decided on paper, but the marital obligation quickly turned into love. However, this is not a good thing.
