Want to learn more about Destiny 2’s codename Frontiers? Bungie will have some details to share with you next week.
Tomorrow, September 9, marks Destiny’s 10th anniversary, a length of time that makes me feel extremely uncomfortable, but unfortunately, no matter how uncomfortable I am, I can’t change that fact. Meanwhile, Destiny 2 will lead the series into its 11th year, and back in June, developer Bungie revealed a little bit about what’s going to happen by then, specifically something codenamed Frontiers. The studio didn’t reveal anything specific at the time, only saying that the game’s journey will continue in 2025, although its latest expansion, The Final Shape, more or less concludes the 10-year-long main story.

Luckily, Bungie does have some information to share about what’s next for the game next week, though it said in a recent blog post that it “plans to keep our anniversary light and fun.” The blog post continued, “Next week we’ll be hosting a small in-game celebration for everyone, along with a showcase of some of the beautiful art the team has produced over the years. There will be some free Legendary armor, a fun title, some Bungie rewards, and more. Check back next Monday at 8am PT for our blog coverage.”
Notably, the codename Frontiers was also mentioned, with the blog explaining: “At the same time next week, we also plan to kick off the Destiny 2 journey – Codename: Frontiers. At 8am Pacific Time, we will release a short Dev Insight blog post discussing our goals for the future of Destiny. Destiny 2 Game Director Tyson Green and Destiny 2 Narrative Director Alison Lührs will lead the conversation. Where have we been, where are we now, and where do we want to go? And most importantly… how are we going to get there? We want to make clear our commitment to ongoing communication with you.”
The post goes on to say that next week’s post “marks the start of regular updates from our development team on what’s next for Destiny 2,” so those who aren’t fans of the update frequency should be happy.
In July, Bungie laid off 220 employees, with more being integrated into Sony Interactive Entertainment, and one of its previously mentioned “incubation projects” being moved to the newly formed PlayStation Studio.
