A New Anti-Cheat Technology Call of Duty: Vanguard Makes other players invisible to cheaters while playing online.
Ever join a lobby in a game and think “this server is dead”? Now it’s probably because you’re a cheater, because a new anti-cheat system called Ricochet that has been added to Vanguard adds a unique technique called Cloaking. The new technology is detailed on the Call of Duty blog, which dives into how it’s fighting cheating (thanks to the game’s developers).
“Through Cloaking, players who are detected cheating will find themselves unable to see the opposing player in the game world,” the blog post reads. “Characters, bullets, or even voices from legitimate players are invisible to cheaters. However, legitimate players can see that cheaters are affected by disguise (usually, they’ll be the player you see spinning in circles and shouting, ‘Who’s in?’ Shoot me?!”) and can be punished in-game. This […] Give legitimate players an edge over cheaters. “
Essentially, this new technology is a big, smart middle finger for anyone trying to cheat in the game. To cheaters, every map is just a lonely wasteland. And for every other player, cheaters basically become free kills.
The blog post also mentions in-game mitigation techniques designed to “reduce the impact of cheaters while collecting data critical to identifying cheating.” Cloaking is one of the earlier techniques implemented in the game, although the team is still working on other ways to combat cheating.
In addition to that, if players are found cheating, they will be removed from the leaderboards, which is a fairly standard and fair punishment for trying to fake good at interactive toys.
Pioneer and war zone Season 3 was also detailed recently, showing off new maps, new weapons, and for some reason Godzilla and Kong.
