Capcom’s registration of the Dino Crisis trademark suggests the company is working on either a remake or a new installment in the series.
Capcom Registers the Dino Crisis Trademark in Japan
One name appears on every remake wishlist: Dino Crisis. Fans have been pleading with Capcom for years, but until now, there’s been no news.
There was a glimmer of hope when the original game was re-released on PS Plus—though the version left much to be desired.
Capcom later compensated by re-releasing Dino Crisis 1 and 2 on PC via GOG. However, fans are asking for a full-fledged remake, and a recent move by the company hints at imminent news.
Why Is This Trademark Registration Important?
According to Gematsu on X/Twitter, Capcom officially registered the Dino Crisis trademark in Japan on March 4.

We’ve seen similar moves when companies plan to relaunch a classic game. However, this case is different, as Dino Crisis 1 and 2 were recently re-released.
As Dino Crisis expert @Jawmuncher points out:
“This is significant and different from the U.S. trademark. If Capcom has done this, it means they’re preparing something big for the franchise.”
In the U.S., companies often register trademarks simply to prevent others from using them, without any immediate plans.
However, in Japan, the process is stricter and usually indicates that the company genuinely intends to use the trademark—whether for a new game, a remaster, a remake, or another related project.
One example is Onimushawhose trademark was registered in 2015, preceding the remastered version and the upcoming games in the series, including Onimusha 2 Remaster and a brand-new entry coming in 2026.
More Hints That Dino Crisis Is Returning
Additionally, this registration is unrelated to the PS Plus and GOG versions, as Capcom had already registered Dino Crisis six years ago in 2019.
There are more clues. Following the launch of Dead Rising Deluxe RemasterCapcom conducted a survey asking fans which franchises they would like to see return.
The results of this and other surveys led Capcom to take action. In December, the company announced it was reviving “dormant IPs.”
All signs point to Dino Crisis making a comeback. Capcom isn’t just reviving Onimusha with two games—it’s also working on a sequel to The same time. Hopefully, we’ll soon get official confirmation that Dino Crisis is finally returning.
