Dell is presenting new editions of its Alienware and Dell G series at CES and equipping the gaming laptops with top-of-the-line hardware. There are changes in the display sizes.
At CES 2023 in Las Vegas, Dell presented new editions of its well-known laptops from the Alienware X, M and Dell G series. Not much has changed at first glance, but it’s worth taking a second look. These are the following models:
-
Alienware M18 and M16
-
Alienware X16 and X14
-
Dell G16 and G15
Those familiar with Dell – and Alienware in particular – will have noticed from the product name: The manufacturer is entering its notebooks with new display sizes. In direct comparison to the predecessors, the X models “shrink” by one inch, the M models “grow” by one inch.
This serves as a new guideline, according to which the displays will in future have an aspect ratio of 16:10 and thus more usable space in height. According to Dell, this should create a better overview of the game, the field of view. But a lot has also happened “under the hood” with gaming laptops.
Alienware M18 and M16
The Alienware M Series is all about peak performance. Accordingly, the two newly launched models only get top hardware from Intel, AMD and Nvidia. In the future, the new 13th generation Intel Core processors (Rap tor Lake) up to the top chip i9-13980HX will be available.
The new mobile versions of the GeForce RTX 40 family from Nvidia provide the graphics performance. With RTX 4050 to 4090 you can secure between 6 and 16 gigabytes of graphics memory. Correspondingly high-performance AMD Ryzen versions are to follow.
So much performance in a compact housing is only possible with new cooling technologies. Alienware offers seven heat pipes, four fans and an “Element 31” heat plate for the CPU and GPU.
According to their own statements, up to 35 percent more efficient temperature management than with the predecessors. It remains to be seen whether this is to the detriment of the notebook’s volume – and suitability for everyday use.
The Alienware M18 will start at $2,099, while the M16 will start at $1,899. Euro prices are not yet available. The market launch is scheduled for this winter.
Alienware X16 and X14
Alienware’s X family differs from the M series primarily in its more eye-catching design. The manufacturer has hardly changed anything about it and only refined it. Because the new X16 and X14 models have smaller screen diagonals and more compact metal housings compared to their predecessors.
On the keyboard side, RGB-illuminated Cherry MX keys are now used and the touchpad is around 15 percent larger. You can also equip the interior of the X16 and X14 with the latest hardware from Intel, AMD and Nvidia.
Depending on configuration, the Alienware X16 starts at $2,149 and the X14 starts at $1,779. The market launch is scheduled for this winter. Euro prices are not yet available.
Dell G16 and G15
That Dell G-Serie stands in the shadow of the Alienware models with a slightly less pompous look. However, that doesn’t mean they’re significantly less powerful. So you can soon look forward to a revised version of the popular G15, which will be equipped with new Nvidia or AMD hardware.
Also interesting:
The large “sister model” G16, which was previously only available in the USA, also received a complete makeover. Unfortunately, it is not yet clear at this point in time whether and when the model will also be available in Germany. Starting in Spring 2023, the G15 will be available starting at $849 and the G16 starting at $1,499. Euro prices are not yet available.
