, which gives you the opportunity to remove it to change the conductive paste, for example. It must be said that the beast heats up quite a bit, as we shall see later. This calorific value is undoubtedly explained by performances that exceed the minimum required by Sony for its PS5.

A format cut for the PS5

All Corsair SSDs in this range are equipped with heatsinks to prevent performance degradation under heavy loads. It is about a certain size, which is rarely a problem with a classic PC. Corn The PS5 has a case with a limited height if you want to close the metal cover that protects the SSD.

This version of the MP600 is therefore an evolution of the MP600 Pro in LPX, i.e. with a thin profile (LPX stands for Low Profile eXtension). An acronym already used for other products in the range that indicates this SSD a thickness of 11 mm compared to 19 for the classic models.

Of course, this doesn’t prevent you from using the latter, which has an identical intrinsic performance, but which requires you to leave the PS5’s SSD cover open. Doable, but not recommended by Sony.

Once installed in the PS5, this model is very close to, if not identical to, the performance of a Tenor for that use. We are thinking in particular of the SN850 from Western Digital. Load times don’t show any notable differences, with the exception of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which makes you wait 40 seconds longer than on the internal SSD.

On the other hand, no difference is visible in the game unless you want to gain half seconds. The average operating temperature of the PS5 is around 40 °C and can rise to 50C° at maximum load. It’s slightly above our expectations, but it turned out under conditions that we never encounter in the game, ie writing several tens of gigabytes in a quarter of an hour.

It’s the thickness of the LPX that makes it specific to the PS5

The MP600 PRO LPX is undoubtedly at the top of the SSD basket dedicated to the PS5. It’s up to you to judge whether the game is worth the candle in terms of investment, because this 2TB version we tested is almost as expensive as the console itself today. The adage that time is money was true never been so true.

And it’s even better on PC

Shortly after installing and formatting on PS5, the maximum throughput advertised by the console is 5532.808 MB/s. The PC benchmark numbers, as you can see in the spec table, are above this measurement (just over 6300 MB/s).

The results also turned out to be the best on the PC, with performances that have remained at very high levels despite increasingly drastic tests. Much of Corsair’s communications revolve around the PS5 due to the specific size of the heatsink, but don’t overlook this model when it comes to installing it on a gaming PC. Honestly, only the price difference with the “classic” model, the performance of which is almost identical, can hesitate.

Conclusion

The MP600 PRO LPX is one of the best solid state drives you can put in a PS5. Logically, the only obstacle to this deployment remains the high cost required for high-end devices. So if you want high end you will be satisfied. Even more so when you plug it into a PC. It’s up to you to put it in perspective with the competition, which may offer you slightly less performance at cheaper prices. But that’s not what accounts for the half-point that separates it from the top mark in this test. It’s simply the result of performance that lags slightly behind the WD Black SN850.
