Looking forward to seeing Hollow Knight: Silksong at Gamescom Opening Night Live? You definitely shouldn’t, as long as Geoff Keighley isn’t lying to us.
Every time a game reveal is announced, there’s one game that always pops up in the replies: Hollow Knight: Silksong. Unsurprisingly, fans have been clamoring for a release date since it was revealed as a standalone game in 2019, and Team Cherry hasn’t had many updates since then. Back in 2022, it was at least confirmed that it would be coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, while in 2023, the official Xbox Twitter account also overconfidently claimed that it would release that same year. After multiple reveals, we’re halfway through 2024 and there’s still no sign of when it’ll be released – but of course, that hasn’t stopped fans from asking if it’ll be live at Gamescom Opening Night next week. The answer? No.

Yesterday, The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley said on his personal Twitter account: “To clear things up, Silksong will not be coming to ONL on Tuesday. Team Cherry is still working on it.” This will obviously be disappointing to fans who have somehow come to believe that this is the only game coming, but honestly, Silksong is pretty much a done deal as things stand. Really, it’s coming when it’s coming, and there are always too many games out there right now, so play something else while you wait, okay?

This isn’t the first time Keighley has set expectations for his games. Ahead of Summer Game Fest, Keighley made it clear that games like the currently somewhat missing Kingdom Hearts 4 wouldn’t be at Gamescom ONL (but he didn’t do the same for Gamescom ONL, so Kingdom Hearts fans, brace us for disappointment).
However, the host provided a list of games to expect during ONL, including Indiana Jones and the Grand Circle, Little Nightmares 3, and Monster Hunter Wildlands, as well as “lots of new game announcements, surprises, and special guests.” We’ll see, Jeff. We’ll see.
