The next mainline game in the legendary turn-based strategy series civilization in development.
2K Games released the short statement alongside the announcement that Firaxis Games COO Heather Hazen will be head of the studio.
As Studio Head, Hazen will leverage their 22 years of experience in the games and entertainment industry to manage the studio’s development team. Hazen joined Firaxis in 2020 as Chief Operating Officer, having previously worked at Epic Games as Executive Producer on Fortnite. While at PopCap Games, Hazen was also an executive producer on Plants vs Zombies and Bejeweled.
Hazen’s promotion comes as longtime Firaxis studio head Steve Martin is leaving the studio after 25 years at the company.
Another longtime employee who has left the company is Jake Solomon, creative director of the XCOM franchise and Marvel’s Midnight Sun. After more than 20 years at Firaxis Games, Soloman helped reinvigorate the tactical turn-based genre with XCOM: Enemy Unknown, XCOM 2, and Marvel’s Midnight Sun.
“I am starting a new chapter; however, I am very grateful for the opportunity to fulfill my dream at Firaxis Games,” said Solomon.
“I’m grateful to everyone who loves XCOM and Marvel’s Midnight Sun, and to my development and publishing partners who helped bring these games to life.”
