^ Stay tuned for our video producer murdering some of our beloved TV-themed commercials
Trombone Champion It’s a gift that keeps on giving. Somehow, the gimmicks of classic tunes are rendered mockingly amidst the shrieks of poorly synthesized brass that never seem to get any less interesting over time. Until now, probably because I’ve tried playing with some classic TV themes in free improv mode.
That’s it. That’s how it’s written. Can I leave it there, Tom? What else is there to say?I can write a Star Trek: The Next Generation The best music-inspired episodes, if you will. Well, I’m doing it anyway.
inner light
Arguably TNG’s best episode (it won a Hugo and everything), Inner Light sees the crew of the Enterprise encounter an ancient probe from a long-extinct alien race, who, it turns out, their The planet was destroyed centuries ago. The energy released by the device knocked Captain Picard into a coma for a few minutes, but after a few minutes he relived the life of Cumming, a genius scientist who launched the probe as a kind of time capsule to save some The civilization he died.
It was this episode that gave Picard his Ressikan Flute: a momentous moment in the character’s life that would be referenced many times over the next few decades.
course
Not as memorable an episode as Inner Light, but just as important to Picard’s storyline: it has a love interest (he doesn’t have a lot because he’s old and bald), Lieutenant Nella Daren, who starred in the stellar In the form of a drawing an expert appeared and eventually taught him how to play the Ressikan flute from the previous episode. There’s a lot of other stuff going on, but I’m not going to summarize the whole episode as I’m doing this just to complement the video description.

Most of the first season was spools, but there were some gems, and this is one. It has a whole bunch of terrifying IT pixies on board to upgrade while Riker pulls out his trombone to play a sexy holodeck character. Classic Berman-era crap, then, but very important to Riker: The trombone frequently resurfaces on the show as a constant source of comic relief.
In addition, the aforementioned love minuet will also make a surprise return in the fourth season The future is not perfect As Riker’s wife, in a fictional reality designed to convince him that a virus has robbed him of his 16 years of memory, when in reality it’s all a ruse made by a little alien boy who just wants to let Riker becomes his father.
It’s very relevant because I want him to be my dad.
heritage
Brent Spiner used to think of Data as the protagonist of TNG, and even though it’s a very ensemble show, I do understand where he’s coming from: Star Trek is about exploring what it means to be human as much as exploring strange new worlds, and Data is A robot looking for its own humanity.
This mission culminates in the arrival of Dr. Juliana Tainer, ostensibly Data’s “mother”, on board in season seven (after a long, twisty, multi-season subplot about Data’s origins), and long story short, she is kind of his mother also kind of his sister.but in a respectable Science fiction struggles with the nature of the self Some way, not something like “The Norfolk Family.”
That’s enough
