If your phone case is worn and yellowed, you should clean it. We’ll explain to you in just a few steps how to clean your smartphone case.
Your smartphone cases protect your expensive smartphone from breakage, bumps or scratches and also keep dirt and fingerprints away from the back. However, the protective covers are exposed to environmental influences every day and should therefore be cleaned regularly.
Depending on the material, you should make sure to only use the appropriate tools. You can even put silicone cases in the washing machine; those made of leather or wood require special care. We’ll show you how to proceed with cleaning.
Cleaning your cell phone case: This is the best way to do it
Whatever the smartphone doesn’t get, inevitably ends up on the case. In addition, germs and bacteria can collect on the case as well as dust and crumbs between the case and the cell phone – so you should clean the accessories regularly.
Basically, you can’t clean all cases with the same (cleaning) products. Silicone cases are the most durable: these models made of transparent or colored silicone as well as TPU and other plastics can withstand a lot. If normal rinsing with water doesn’t help, you can also use a soft brush to clean the silicone case.
Be careful with fabric, leather or wood
Cleaning agents such as soap or dishwashing liquid can also be used on plastic cases. If it is very dirty, you also have the option of putting the cover in the washing machine at 30 degrees along with your regular laundry. By then, at the latest, most of the dirt should be removed and there will be a fresh scent on top of that.
However, some more expensive cases are not made of plastic, but rather of fabric, leather, wood or other high-quality materials. Here you should avoid using aggressive cleaning agents or sharp objects for cleaning – otherwise you run the risk of damaging the beautiful cover. However, there are special care products that you can use for wood and leather.
This is how you clean yellowed cases
There is also a peculiarity with transparent silicone cases: These models tend to yellow after a few months of use due to sweat and sunlight. In many cases this discoloration is irreversible, but sometimes the stain can be removed.
To do this, prepare a thick paste from a little water, dishwashing liquid and baking soda and rub it into the case. Leave the mixture to work for about two hours and then rinse it off thoroughly with warm water. If the method does not bring you the desired result, your only option is to buy a new one.
