Cliff “CliffyB” Bleszinski, former lead designer war machine series, thinks Microsoft was “smart” to have him consult on the series, though he’s ready to move on.
It seems like every other minute CliffyB is talking about some game series he’s worked on and what to do with them despite no longer being in the industry, his last notable work being a failed attempt to capitalize on rapid growth. Radical Heights is a 2018 battle royale game. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Bleszinski said he thinks Gears of War needs a reboot like God of War, saying “Phil Spencer has my phone number and I’m happy to inquire.”

He later issued a statement on Twitter, further explaining his comments, again saying he would be happy to consult but at the same time somewhat ambivalent as he also believed it was “time to move on.” The former game developer wrote in a statement, “We’ve discussed this a million times with Gears of War. I’d love to consult. Give me my two cents. Cricket. I know Gears of War will always be a big part of my legacy.” .I appreciate and respect that. Having said that. Microsoft/Alliance haven’t approached me yet. All right. That’s the way it is.

“If they were smart, they would ask for my advice because, just from a PR perspective, this would be gold. But nothing… although I’m very grateful for your support and those who came through me People who know me from working on Gears of War… it’s time to move on.”
Personally, I find the PR comments a bit self-indulgent. After all, his last game in the games industry was as the founder of a studio that failed to succeed with any of its projects, leading to the studio being shut down in an attempt to make a quick cash grab. We haven’t seen a new Gears of War since 2019, though, so a reboot might not be the worst thing in the world.
