The beta for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has now also started on the PC. While only pre-orderers are allowed to play at the moment, everyone else who is interested can take a look from tonight.
However, as is the case with betas, there are also a few technical issues that can get in the way of gameplay. In this article we inform you about currently known problems and tell you about fixes and workarounds, if possible. You can find out how you can also technically prepare for the beta here:
CoD MW 2:
The most important PC settings and graphics settings
Mistake #1: Cell phone number verification
One of the most common bugs with the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 ongoing beta is that you may be locked out after a PC restart. Modern Warfare 2 or Steam will then ask for your cell phone number in order to verify your access accordingly. If you enter a number that is already stored several times, you may be blocked.
To fix the problem, you can do the following:
- closes Modern Warfare 2 completely
- Open your Steam client and go to the settings there
- changes to the tab
Web Browser
clickClear web browser data
and confirm the process - starts Modern Warfare 2 again
Ideally, you can now proceed with the beta. the However, developers point this outthat the fix m ay not work for all players. The team is working flat out to fix the problem.

Error #2: Checking for Update
Also, many players report that Modern Warfare 2 is constantly looking for a new update for unknown reasons. There is also for that a workaround:
- Right click on Modern Warfare 2 Beta in Steam
- chooses
Characteristics
out - goes up
local files
and then up thereSearch…
- in the games folder click on the folder
main
- delete the following files there:
date0
,data1
,toc0
andtoc1
You then have the installation of the beta verified again via Steam. Missing files are automatically re-downloaded.
It also applies to this error that the workaround could not help all players. The developers are working on another solution.

Error #3: Fixes for crashes
The Modern Warfare 2 beta also tends to crash frequently for some players for no apparent reason. The following error messages often appear:
- 0x8000FFF
- 0xC0000005(0)N
- HUENEME CONCORD
- 0x887a0005
The developers already have released an updateto fix some of the crash causes. However, there are still players who report that the client regularly crashes. If you are one of them, here are a few tips to possibly fix the problem.
- According to one Reddit post Does it help in the graphics settings the options Nvidia Reflex and
On Demand Texture Streaming
to disable - a other post recommends setting the shader quality up
low
to put - Deleting the config file: Open your documents folder in Windows and look for the folder
Call of Duty
and opens the playersBeta folder. There you delete the config file. When starting the game, a new configuration file should now be created automatically. - Change username: If you haven’t previously linked your Steam account to an Activision account, you will be given a randomly generated name when you launch the game. the Developers recommend itthat you change this at the beginning to avoid any crashes
- Avoid automatic restart: If the game has to be restarted due to changed settings, then do this manually. With an automatic restart, it can happen that Modern Warfare 2 just crashes.
Error #4: Matchmaking no longer finds games
In addition to crashes and other locks, it can happen that at some point your matchmaking is caught in a kind of permanent loop. The only thing that helps here is to cancel the search and start the matchmaking again. Sometimes the step even has to be taken several times so that you can finally find new opponents again.
Incidentally, we have already looked at the beta for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, completed the first games and show you how matches can be played in the new multiplayer mode:
