Important difference between PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro

• PS4 Pro provides 4K resolution and HDR, PS4 Slim does not
• Some games run smoother on PS4 Pro (also PSVR title)
• PS4 Slim is narrower and takes up less space
• PS4 Slim is much cheaper
• The cheapest PS4 Slim only offers 500 GB of storage

Which model is right for you? To answer this question, you should understand the different properties of the device. We are here for you. PS4 Slim is available in 500 GB or 1 TB memory version, Pro models only have 1 TB of memory. The lightweight version weighs 2.1 kg, much lighter than the PS4 Pro (3.3 kg), and has two USB ports (USB 3.1 Gen 1). For comparison: PS4 Pro provides three connection methods. The latter is essential if you want to connect two cable controllers and an external hard drive at the same time.

The height of the PS4 Slim is 3.9 cm, and its horizontal position is narrower than the PS4 Pro of 5.5 cm. If you want to place the PS4 horizontally on a narrow shelf, please take this into consideration. In any case, make sure to leave enough space on both sides to maintain good ventilation.

PS4 Pro with 4K resolution and HDR

Technically, PS4 Pro is better than PS4 Slim. This has shown the performance of the graphics chip. PS4 Slim offers 1.84 teraflops, PS4 Pro has 4.2 teraflops.

Therefore, due to the high dynamic range (HDR), on PS4 Pro, you can also enjoy the advantages of game 4K resolution, higher frame rate ("frame rate"), better anti-aliasing and optimized contrast. Sony said that the enhanced mode of the PS4 Pro also said that many games that run before the high-end console is released should run better.

For 4K resolution and HDR, you also need a screen with these features. PS4 games should also be optimized for PS4 Pro so that you can enjoy these advantages. Some games offer about 4K resolution, but no HDR, and some also offer "Zero Horizon". For some games, you can even choose your favorite settings in the game menu. For example, you choose a frame rate of 30 frames per second in 4K resolution, or a smoother frame rate of 60 frames per second and full HD resolution.

In many cases, 4K resolution is not native, but high-end. However, on the corresponding TV, the picture usually looks sharp and clear. PS4 Pro can also display some selected games at native 4K resolution.

If you want to enter virtual reality through PlayStation 4, you can use Sony's VR glasses PlayStation VR (PSVR). PS4 Pro can also provide advantages over PS4 Slim here. Therefore, the appearance of some games is slightly clearer, and the loading time can be shorter. The quality difference between PS4 Pro and PSVR may vary depending on the title. Maybe you often don't find any difference.

PS4 and PS4 Pro prices

However, Sony can also pay for all these advantages, because the price of PlayStation 4 Pro with terabyte memory is significantly higher than PS4 Slim. The retail price of high-end game consoles is usually 400 Euros. From time to time there are special offers of 300 to 360 Euros-sometimes also bundled with the game.

With PS4 Slim with 500 GB of memory, you will get a cheaper service. The device is usually priced at 260 euros, and the model with TB memory is 300 euros. Thanks to some retailers, PS4 Slim was sold at a price between 197 and 240 euros. Below we link the test reports of the two consoles so that you can understand all the differences yourself.
