Sony’s new live service shooter goes into pre-order beta this weekend, but now apparently all Playstation Plus subscribers can also take part.
Early access for the beta of Concord, the new 5v5 shooter with which Sony wants to join the live service circus on PC and PS5, starts today. The beta was actually only supposed to be accessible to those who pre-ordered the game, but now Sony has significantly expanded the circle of players.
As Sony has now announced, Playstation Plus subscribers can also take part in the beta alongside those who pre-order. It starts this evening at 7 p.m., and the client has been available for download since yesterday. This gives you the opportunity to try out three modes – Clash Point, Trophy Hunt and Cargo Run – and all 16 starting characters in the game. Next week, the open beta will begin, starting on July 18 and running until July 21.
It is unclear why Sony is now including PS Plus members, but it is likely that the number of pre-orders may not look so great and Sony wants to ensure that enough players take part in the beta. Concord did not exactly come off well after its presentation at the recent State of Play. The community quickly dubbed the title “the poor man’s Overwatch” because the game also draws inspiration from Blizzard Entertainment’s successful title with its hero-based FPS gameplay.
In any case, anyone who takes part in the beta will of course receive some in-game rewards for the final main game, which is currently scheduled to be released on August 23rd for PC and PS5. Colleague Dennis recently had the opportunity to take a look at Concord and says in his preview that it certainly has its qualities: “But you should at least give the shooter a chance during the open beta, which runs from July 18th to 21st and even offers crossplay between PC and Playstation 5. Because it is a very promising game that in no way deserves all the hate it is currently receiving on the Internet.”
