Confirmed the new name that the Overwatch gunman will receive

confirmed, Gunman, Overwatch, receive

The harassment and abuse lawsuits that Activision Blizzard has received have left us with all kinds of anecdotes over the last few months. Among them was the fact that Blizzard Entertainment decided rename to McCree, one of the heroes of Overwatch, since this paid tribute to Jesse McCree, former designer of Diablo IV that he was fired for being one of the defendants in the uproar that has been generated in the company.

Well, we finally know what his new name will be. As of October 26, it will be officially renamed Cole Cassidy., which seems to have always been his real name and McCree was a nickname he had. This is how at least his new description on the occasion of this announcement makes it clear:

The first thing a renegade loses is his name and he gave it up long ago.

Running from his past meant running from himself, and each passing year only widened the gap between who he had been and what he had become. But in every cowboy’s life, there comes a time when he has to stop and make a stop.

To improve this new Overwatch, to get it right, he had to be honest with his team and with himself. The cowboy he was rode into the sunset, and Cole Cassidy faced the world at dawn.

Therefore, starting Tuesday next week in the game only Cole Cassidy’s name will appear everywhere. The only thing that remains is to find out if this will be the only modification that will occur or if the character will receive some other change, either in its appearance, abilities, etc.

It is it has not been the only similar case which has recently been produced in a Blizzard video game, since World of Warcraft too removed names and references of several employees who were fired for harassment. With respect to Overwatch 2, for the moment its launch is still planned for sometime next year.
