With Warzone 2.0 launching tomorrow, community members are flocking to urge others to turn off their microphones, as crying babies, deep breaths, and arguments with loved ones are deteriorating the experience.
This is a complaint primarily aimed at console players. Since the PC community is mostly used to push-to-talk and issues surrounding hot mics, it’s odd that those issues on consoles, especially the PS5, seem to be the biggest source of guilt parties.
But first, a detailed analysis of the problem. In Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, you can communicate with other players via voice chat. Nothing fancy there, but since the PS5 controller has a built-in mic that’s automatically enabled when you boot up the console, it means gamers are already jumping into a MW2 game, rapping loudly, eating the crunchiest potato chips, and turning the Their gamer drinks go to everyone’s ears. Also, if they’re streaming game audio through the TV, the PS5 tablet will pick up all the sound.
As you can imagine, the response was legendary. A quick visit to Reddit reveals a plethora of memes and complaints about the issue. Some people are trying to help their comrades, creating a guide on how to mute the PS5 DualSense microphone. Others were talking nonsense, noticing the voices of the players echoing in the unfurnished room and the deafening sound of the loud chorus.
“I mean, this is the answer to almost every conversation about ‘Why doesn’t anyone use game chat anymore?’,” wrote user Preston801 on Reddit. “The only thing missing from the list is shitty rap or metalcore blaring in the mic with a mouth breather on his bowl.”
As bad as this is for MW2 multiplayer, it will become a rarer and more interesting problem once Warzone 2.0 goes live. What is your reason? Chat up close. When you meet players in Al Mazrah, you can hear them down their mics here, sometimes before you even hear them. This is combined with the classic post-kill mic to hear the salty reactions of killed players, which is sure to be glorious.
So make sure your mics are muted before launching Warzone 2.0 tomorrow. And, if you hear babies crying on the streets and by the sea, pull out your guns and start poking around for negligent fathers.
